My first international article! Emma Watson Refuses to ‘Sex-Up’ to Land Better Roles

First published on Life & Style Weekly March 27th 2014

Don’t expect to see Hermione Granger rocking fishnets anytime soon, as Emma Watson has admitted she’s unwilling to sex herself up — even if it means more adult roles sometimes pass her by.

The 23-year-old actress is best known for her role in the Harry Potter series, and is currently promoting new movie Noah, in which she plays the biblical hero’s adopted daughter.

She told Elle magazine, “In my downtime, I don’t sex myself up much. Sometimes I have a hard time convincing directors that I can play more adult roles.”

She confessed, “I was being offered roles that I didn’t feel were very complicated. Women that were one dimensional. Roles that required me to be one thing, but real women never are.”

Emma has also played a teenage criminal in The Bling Ring and a young wardrobe assistant in My Week With Marilyn.

Meanwhile her former co-star Daniel Radcliffe has had more success playing grown-ups, including an up-coming role as Igor in an adaptation of Frankenstein.

We say, don’t worry Emma – as you proved in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, late bloomers are always the coolest!
